ยาเม็ดเมโทรนิดาโซลอยู่ในบัญชียาหลักแห่งชาติ พ.ศ. 2560 บัญชี ก ยาเม็ดเมโทรนิดาโซลใช้เป็นยาฆ่าเชื้อแบคทีเรียและฆ่าเชื้อโปรโตซัวซึ่งแพร่หลายในประเทศไทย อย่างไรก็ตามคุณภาพของยาเม็ดเมโทรนิดาโซลไม่ได้ทาการสำรวจคุณภาพมามากกว่า 10 ปี ดังนั้นในปีงบประมาณ 2560 สำนักยาและวัตถุเสพติด กรมวิทยาศาสตร์การแพทย์ ได้ทำการสำรวจคุณภาพยาเม็ดเมโทรนิดาโซล โดยทำการสุ่มตัวอย่างจากโรงพยาบาลของรัฐทั่วประเทศ ผ่านระบบแจ้งเตือนภัยและฐานข้อมูลคุณภาพความปลอดภัยผลิตภัณฑ์สุขภาพ จำนวน 27 ตัวอย่าง จากผู้ผลิต 9 ราย รวม 13 ทะเบียนตำรับยา ในประเทศไทย ขนาดความแรง 200 250 และ 400 มิลลิกรัม เพื่อตรวจประเมินในหัวข้อปริมาณตัวยาสำคัญ ความสม่ำเสมอของตัวยาสำคัญ การละลายของตัวยา และสารปนเปื้อน โดยใช้วิธีและเกณฑ์มาตรฐานตามตำรายาของสหรัฐอเมริกา (USP39) ซึ่งได้ทวนสอบวิธีวิเคราะห์แล้ว ผลการตรวจประเมินพบว่ายาเม็ดเมโทรนิดาโซลผิดมาตรฐานจำนวน 1 ตัวอย่าง โดยผิดมาตรฐานหัวข้อการละลายของตัวยา จากการศึกษาแสดงให้เห็นว่ายาเม็ดเมโทรนิดาโซลที่มีใช้ในประเทศไทยส่วนใหญ่มีคุณภาพ

Metronidazole Tablets is listed in class A in the National List of Essential Medicines 2017.It is widely used as antibacterial and antiprotozoal in Thailand. However, the quality of metronidazole tablets has not been evaluated for more than 10 years. Therefore, the quality survey of metronidazole tablets was performed by Bureau of Drug and Narcotic, Department of Medical Sciences in the fiscal year 2017.The samples were collected from the public hospitals by the single window system. A total of 27 samples from 9 manufacturers and 13 formulations in Thailand, with strength of 200, 250 and 400 mg, were evaluated for the content of active ingredients, content uniformity, dissolution and impurity by using the methods and specifications of United States Pharmacopoeia (USP 39).The analytical methods were verified for the suitability prior to sample testing. The results found that 1 sample of metronidazole tablets did not conform to the requirement for the dissolution. It can be concluded that most of Metronidazole tablets in Thailand have satisfactory qualities.
